clean eating, days 9, 10, & a review

Well hello there. I dropped off the blog world for awhile, and there I was doing so well posting regularly in the beginning of April. Now it's been so long I don't even know if I can remember what I ate those last two days. And once again, I forgot to take pictures because my parents were in town (I'm not really sure I can blame the lack of pictures at breakfast and lunch, but I'll try). Gosh, this post is not off to a good start...

Day 9: Thursday, April 11

Breakfast: protein pancakes, banana, and apple butter
Lunch: crock pot lentils, clementines, cottage cheese, hard boiled egg
Dinner: baked chicken breast, lentils, mixed green salad with apples, almonds, onions, feta, and homemade honey mustard dressing

Day 10: Friday, April 12

Breakfast: oatmeal, greek yogurt, milk, and mixed berry smoothie
Lunch: ???
Dinner: Cleanse done (technically one meal early, but let's overlook that)! To celebrate/ as a Christmas gift to my dad we went out to Sea Change and I got: crisp skinned arctic char with white beans and artichoke giardiniera as well as splitting a side of brussels sprouts, an arugula and grapefruit salad, and a bottle of wine. Girl scout cookies were also enjoyed in the evening after a concert.

Review:
So would I do a "clean" eating challenge again? Absolutely.

Both David and I noticed a difference in our energy level about halfway through. Not that we necessarily had more energy for the entire day, but we both woke up in the morning alert and ready for the day- which was a nice side effect. I had headaches on and off for probably the first half as well- but I'll never know if it was the lack of caffeine, sugar, or allergies that was causing it (in reality it was probably a combination of the 3). Other than that, the only other physical change we noticed was that David lost about 6 pounds without increasing his exercise amount (although he is usually pretty active anyways, with the vending and all). I lost a few pounds as well, but that could have been the running or the change in diet.

Since ending the 10-day trial we have made some changes (or decided on some changes to make...). I am going to cut out sugar during the work week (unless there is a special occasion) as well as most processed foods, saving treats for the weekend. David has decided to return to our normal eating habits (which again, are mostly good), except now, for every beer he wants to drink he is going to run a mile (or vend)- good thing he likes to run.

I'll keep you posted how this new "challenge" goes- I'm pretty all-or-nothing when it comes to diet and exercise so I think this is going to be harder than the all-out clean eating we just did. I'm also thinking of adding another "challenge" to the calendar- 2 weeks of morning exercise. This one would be much harder for me, but very beneficial during the baseball season. David won't join me on this challenge however, does anyone out there want to partake?
