'Til elections!
And so, in the spirit of the campaign season I watched the VP debate last night with a few coworkers. We* wore red clothes, ate red foods, and drank red drinks to support our candidate.
Dinner was potluck style, and my contribution was a baked apple cobbler. It was super easy, and really tasty- perfect for a quick dessert on a fall night, especially since all of the ingredients are things I usually have on hand. If I was looking to bring a dish to a more formal get together, however, I might choose something a little more impressive looking.
My reflections on the debate portion of the evening: overall, a closer competition than last week's debate, and a lot less fun to watch. There was no doubt in my mind going into the debate that Paul Ryan would do well, and he did. He gave informed, detailed answers and he looked better doing it than his opponent. There was of course room for improvement, but his flaws were dwarfed by Biden's behavior. Biden's performance throughout the night was literally painful to watch. He did come out much more aggressively than Obama, which was necessary, and even made a few points (which I didn't agree with). However, I felt uncomfortable watching him grin and chuckle every time Ryan opened his mouth- it certainly wasn't respectful or professional. His interrupting was even worse (I read on the internet it was as much as 82 times). And his repeated use of the phrase "level the playing field" was downright scary.
Also, did anyone else notice how the moderator pressed Ryan for details with follow her up questions, but never did the same to Biden?
Continuing in the spirit of campaign season, I am going to be spending a good majority of my weekend door knocking for a candidate who is running for State Rep. His district has been targeted by the DFL as crucial to winning back the majority, and in 2012 he only won by 107 votes. I'll be out there Friday and Saturday talking to residents of his district, encouraging them to vote for my guy!

And since we are on the topic of politics, check out this article, which proves conservatives are happier than their political opposites!
